Egerszalók's main attraction is the limestone hill created by the thermal spring and the thermal water that flows from the ground. The white limestone tufa, which is characterised by a characteristic hole, is formed by the precipitation of calcium carbonate from fresh water at a thermal spring or in a limestone cave. Mosses and algae colonise the limestone precipitated near the source, on which additional limestone is deposited by the chemical action of plants. The process is repeated over and over again and contributes greatly to the pitted nature of the limestone tufa and to its changing colour from white to cream or brown. The continuously building, imposing, jagged limestone hill has become a symbol of Egerszalok. The village is an officially recognised spa, thanks to its natural thermal and medicinal waters. The protected area is subject to year-round air and noise standards.
